Civic Leadership Institute
The Civic Leadership Institute is a multi-session
training program that FRESC began in 2005 where leaders of diverse
organizations develop capacity to design and implement public policy
centered on community needs and working families, including economic
development, health care and immigration.
Economic Development – Fall 2005
The
central focus of this CLI was leadership development focused on “the
new economy,” with a specific emphasis on the Denver region. The
institute examined the relationship between economic policy and social
values — focusing on such issues as housing, health care, economic
development, privatization, deregulation, tax and budget policy, job
creation strategies, and corporate accountability. In addition, the CLI
analyzed the power structures within the regional economy, local
government, and the community. Lastly, the series discussed economic
development strategies that prioritize community well-being.
Health Care - Fall 2006
The CLI on
Health Care examined the principle forces and dynamics driving economic
policy in the areas of coverage, access and appropriateness of health
care services; best practices; the role of government, employers and
the individual; explored shared principles and values; and
opportunities for concerted action.
Immigration - Spring 2006
FRESC’s
CLI on Immigration educated participants on the impacts of a global
economy on Colorado, ways to move forward with a community-centered
progressive vision, and provided tools to conduct grassroots outreach
with members while supporting local efforts for immigrant rights.
